Dr. Cindy Moss was the Director of PreK-12 STEM for the 145 ,000 students and 13,000 teachers in the Charlotte Mecklenburg (NC) Schools for 10 years. In this role she used STEM to decrease the achievement gap, increase graduation rate and improve teacher retention. She spent the past 9 years as the VP of Global STEM for Discovery Education and is now the VP of Innovation for Defined Learning. Her passion is inspiring educators to use PBL and STEM to engage all types of learners.
Dr. Moss earned her BS in Zoology from the University of North Carolina, where she was a Morehead Scholar. She earned her Masters in Science Teaching from Syracuse University while working full time and serving as a varsity cross-country and basketball coach, who won 4 NY state championships. She earned her doctorate from the Curtin Institute of Technology in Perth, Western Australia where she won the Australia Dissertation award for her work.
She is a Milken National Educator (often considered the Oscars of teaching), was recognized as 1 of the top 100 Women in STEM by STEM Connector and 1 of the top 25 Business Women in Charlotte by the Charlotte Business Journal. In her spare time she loves spending time on Mountain Island Lake with her husband and dog, riding her bike and hiking.
