Damian’s experience in education spans from serving as teacher in elementary, middle, high school and college faculty. He also served as Regional Lead for Expanded Learning Programs in two separate regions in the state and was responsible for providing technical assistance and support to over 700 after school sites in 10 counties. Damian’s most notable accomplishments include: having successfully co-authored legislation to increase funding for 21st CCLC programs; having evaluated the unique challenges of rural programs, presenting this work to the California Department of Education and the California State Legislative Rural Education Summit which led to increase in funding specifically for rural programs; and being appointed to serve on the California Governor’s After School Master Plan Design Team.
In his most recent role, Damian served as the Director of Training & Development (T&D) for a $1B public, non-profit Medicaid managed care health plan serving over 350,000 members. He was responsible for providing the strategic and operational leadership vision in planning, implementing, evaluating and monitoring the organization-wide training and development function for 600+ employees.
Damian successfully built an industry recognized T&D department of 10 and became the go-to for other health plans in California. As a result, he consulted and assisted other teams in developing and implementing their own training departments and initiatives. He also founded and chaired the first statewide Training & Development collaborative focused on implementing and aligning learning strategies for similar non-profit health insurance companies.
